Week 6 Copyright and Creative Commons,
Actually as much as I hate this Copyright and Creative Commons thingy since my days in production. I also embrace it as it serve to protect the IP rights of the creator and developers.
Just sharing some experience from my producer days. I have to get 101 permits at certain locations and get my talents to sign release rights to avoid risk of being sued for rights or more money to be paid. Of course we try to negotiate our ways through 101 ways as well, but teh paperwork etc.
There are also time like highlighted in the comic, I have to replace a music of a promo or spot due to licencing. It may be license at one place but not the other (Different in countries). There are also bodies protecting these rights. Voices and scenes as well. while its a pain for us users, I can understand how much time say a composer spend to compose the music and yet not get paid for till someone uses their pieces. Sometimes, the piece is never used for ages, times are hard for people like them. These days, materials are being used on different platforms, thus different rates. organisations are formed just to help protect them. So as understandingas I can be, I am just concern sometimes the out of teh world prices and how it goes down the line.
Still, I do agree to such protection. Anyway, such protection and time bound before it becomes public, that's why at some point we have such "free" access to certain materials. I think it also boils down to ethics, making sure either we reference and credit the people's work we used, if not, make the necessary renumerations. Haveing come from the creative industry, this is something we hate but yet embrace as one day, I may create my own work...now who is there to protect it.....food for thought.

Week 6: Tagging, Folksonomies & Technorati
Technorati... I started off with the discovery excercise. Interesting that two slightly different keyword search “School Library Learning 2.0” or “Classroom Learning 2.0” will get extremely different results. Very different from the usual Yahoo or google. Probably there wasn't a “School Library Learning 2.0” registered, that's why this search is more like a "random" find verses the "classroom Learning 2.0" where its precise accuracy.
Anyway, I had a look exploring the site briefly, taking a look how it organise and sort itself out. How it sort via categories and do the searches via toppics of interests. This gives an extra avenue how to go about searching how the blogs were tagged.
Even searching for posts look so easy with ranking, popular searches. It basically help to narrow down searches where in the past, with the google and yahoo engines, I simply ends up 101 items, these probably narrow downs the search.
My only concern is where people tagged their posts. How did they tag it?the way they tagged it? how close is it to what I am looking for even though it is the one I'm searching for. Getting philosophical I am....

Week 6: Del.icio.us
Interesting website. The bookmarks are very well organised. Tagged to its respective categories and subtopics. I can easily click on its repective tags or even do a simple search and its almost like 95% accuracy. All I have to do is just pinpoint what I want to find.
Indeed as mentioned, it is a good alternative for bookmarks. Esepcially I can sign up my own account and organise my own favourite bookmarks. I'll have a common place for bookmark especially using different laptops and PCs, instead of having carrying it around a thumbdrive. Never realised there is such a site until today.
Will I do it....well, I'm just one step away from opening an account and get it going.

Week 6 Catching up
So much had happened since my last entry. Started with a simple leave from 15th Dec where I planned to do the e-learning from home while witness the HDB folks destroy and rebuild my toilet due to leaks...did it happend?...oh no.... I ended up fire-fighting a lot of nitty-gritty stuffs. From dealing with the contractors to...falling sick...yup. got hit by the flu bug and suffered for 7 days...on the bright side. I lost 3kg. Flu wasn't the worse...I ended up with an eye infection as well... can it get worse?...you bet. In between all, my grandfather had moved on last week ...so I spent christmas with the whole "village" at the wake where cousins and "ohanas" from my yester years was looking for me (minus 20years). Yup, they forgottten I had grown up.
Anyway, enough of the blah blah blahs...time to catch up week 6....off I go.

Week 5 - Rollyo
This is a very interested website, creating or customising your search engine. a very interesting concept. This is what i had created, a topic called massage. This is my volunteer work at the moment to local sports folks.
http://www.rollyo.com/index.html
I tried to edit the searchroll. Its interesting how searchroll in rollyo can customise my searches. This is like a first hand on understanding how search engine works, and now at rollyo, I have a "preferred" and "customised" search engine.
Definately something new for me. In a nutshell, this week had it had opened my views to search engines, social network using Ning, had a go at the online image generator.

Week 5 - Pt 2 : Ning
I just signed up ning, had a look at the interface. Maybe i'm just well sceptical, having being a Facebook person. I just find this site not as friendly, but then again I may had been pampered by facebook.
Still its a good experience to joing ning and had a chance to look at other social network site, although I still swear by Facebook at the moment.
Being in a social network is good as you can see a lot of views from people all around the world. minus the cyber risk of course.
I had learnt, there is life beyond Facebook... although I still swear by it.

Reflections Week 4 part deux
I found this website...schoollibraryjournal.com.
Ths site has quite comprehensive information. Ialso noticed that there is also a lot of comments made. I'll probably explore it from time to time with help from my google reader. It will initiate me to have a look at it.
For now, I'll explore google docs. I saw a comment somewhere in teh page which I think i might check it out.
I'm glad i'm inthis e-learning "hing"

Reflections Week 4
On RSS
Well, I started on Google Reader. Subscribed my own blog and another website www.archerysingapore.com onto it. so this is the start of my RSS adventure.
RSS can come in quite handy, especially if I want to get updates. Although i have a lot of e-mail updates. normally I do not have time to read it or it just contain lots of advertisments, discouraging me from reading. This tool can come in quite handy....i just wonder will teh advertisers make use of it?
I realised I had been using it. My yahoo widgets is one. I have my calendar and e-mail tied to it and it gives me notification regularly. Hmmm... So its another realisation.

Reflections Week 3
Technology is pretty cool since my last visit to flicker about 2 year back. From Yahoo Photo which i last uploaded my photos to now flicker, it had developed to be a more interactive platform.
While I still swear by Facebook due to its ease of use. This excercise helped me revisit the other platforms like picasas and Flickr and see how much had changed.
I am now more exposed to the world, in fact, the world can see what I am doing and understand me. Pro? or con? how much am i ready to show the world?
Anyway, I can also now keep my friends and network in touch using these tecnology.
In a year's time, I'll revisit this blog entry to remind myself the develops of these technologies. maybe web 2.5 or 3.0 by then. It had certainly draw me out of Facebook to the other platforms again. to leave my legacy behind.
