A bit of Past, I wasn't a big user of wiki, more of a reader and a 10% participant.
Until I use Facebook, and arrival at NP. I was exposed to the wiki on MeL. Slowly, I realised its a very powerful tool.
Indeed, web in the past was just the author's comments. With Wiki and its similar counterparts, it make it more interactive. I can express views adn comments. Making the website a multi-directional thing.
My concerns is more on moderation, in areas like accuracy of information, information usage and damaging comments given. How one site moderates those. What about copyrights? referencing to the originals when these comments and edits were made?
Still, I have to admit the power of wiki, looks like a "simple editable Word document" but with the freedom of multi-directional inputs and output is really cool.

chances of errors on open and multi member wikis are less as usually the members are able to spot it and fix it. You are right though, on a smaller wiki the wiki admin must be active and track changes on a regular basis.
